VHF successfully executed 7 missions in 2015:

  • 4 regular missions involving 35 vets and 35 guardians

  • 2 flightless missions nominally involving 15 vets and 15 guardians

  • one special mission for vets currently in the Sumter County Correctional System

Three long time members of VHF are retiring at year end

  • Debbie Winters

Five new Board members were elected in 2015:

  • Barbara Cooksey

  • Wayne Grunewald (replacing Fran as Treasurer)

  • Gary Kadow

  • Joe Hambright

  • Liza Walters (replacing Fran's other job as Secretary)

28-Oct-2015 M23, our last regular mission of the year successfully took 35 vets to DC and safely brought them back
20-Oct-2015 The Kansas City HF hub recently held its first flightless event thanks to significant help from us and particularly from Chris Lipp who developed a customized DVD for them.

06-Oct-2015 M22  Villages Honor Flight is mounting a very unusual mission.  M22, to "fly" on 16-Oct-2015, is a flightless mission for vets currently in the Sumter County Correctional System.  Regardless of what may have happened after discharge, these vets served their county honorably and should be appropriately thanked for their service

30-Sep-2015 Fashion Show  Our annual Fashion Show fund raiser will be held Saturday, 24-Oct-2015 at Colony Cottage Recreation Center.  This is a very popular event where fashions are modeled by WWII vets.

28-Sep-2015 M21, our 2nd flightless mission of 2015 and 3rd since inception, "flew" on Saturday, 26Sep'15.  Kudos to the SW pilot who flew a special wide-body jet (the only one in SW's inventory) from Orlando to BWI at 38,000 mph.

18-Sep-2015 M20:  Our most recent regular mission, M20, flew 35 vets and 35 guardians to Washington, DC on 10-Sep-2015.  Feedback has been quite positive

30-Aug-2015 Grand Reunion   By the end of 2015, over 500 WWII vets will have flown to DC with Villages Honor Flight and over 600 vets will have participated in all VHF programs (regular and flightless).  In celebration, VHF will have a Grand Reunion in Jan-2015 for all vets and guardians who have participated in VHF programs since our inaugural flight in May of 2012.

20-Aug-2015 We will have flown most WWII vets from our 5 county responsibility by the end of the year.  We will be holding a Grand Reunion for all mission in early Jan'15

The last regular mission of the year is M23.  The actual flight date is 28-Oct-2015

15-Aug-2015 M20  The next mission for the year is M20.  The actual flight date is 10-Sep-2015

Our next flightless mission is M21; the actual flight date is 26-Sep-2015

13-Feb-2015

The first mission of the year, M17, will be a flightless mission with the actual event on Saturday, 28-Feb-2015.  15 vets and 15 guardians will participate in a simulated trip to DC to see the Changing of the Guard, the USAF Memorial, the USMC Memorial and the war memorials on the DC Mall.

Jim Richards, a US Navy WWII vet will be celebrating his 90th birthday later this month.  How about sending a card to Jim wishing him well.  More ...
